Review: The Silence of the Girls
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Hearing Briseis’s viewpoint was an interesting twist on the stories we’re taught in school. There were a few moments of the Achilles/Patroclus story that felt forced or overworked, but overall this book gave new insight and brought these characters back down to a human level. It brings light to the fact that not everything from this era was gods and honor like the myths would have us think and that there were real humans with real struggles happening daily. There’s also a layer of gloom surrounding the book in realizing that not much has changed over the course of history.
